Central Otago has some of the most magnificent scenery and some of the harshest weather conditions in the world. This is why the owners of this stunning new home sought a sustainable solution that would allow them open up their home to the panoramic view outside, while providing long term cost savings; not just for themselves, but also for the natural environment they love.
The sustainable design plan for this home included high performance low-e (argon filled) double glazing and thermally improved joinery. Green tinted low-e glass provides the best of the outdoors indoors, so the owners of this home can live closer to the view they love, without compromising privacy.
Floor to ceiling sliding doors stretch the full front of this home, providing more natural light and creating a sense of space and connection to the stunning outside environment. In the living room large corner stacking doors create a full opening onto a private courtyard. At the rear, awning windows offer excellent ventilation; they can be left partially open, even when it’s raining.
At the start of this project, the owners had a clear wish list - create an energy efficient home, maximise natural light and capture the incredible view. By working with a team of experts they were able to achieve their goals; creating a home that they say is “an example of ethical and sustainable practice” and “a joy to live in”.
