Low-E Glass
Year-round comfort, built into the glass itself
Low-E glass has a microscopically thin coating that reflects heat energy while allowing natural daylight through. In cooler months it keeps warmth inside; in warmer months it limits heat gain from outside — so your home stays comfortable year-round without working your heating and cooling systems as hard.
How Low-E glass works
Standard clear glass lets heat pass through it in both directions. Low-E glass has a near-invisible metallic coating applied to the surface that acts as a thermal mirror, reflecting heat back toward its source while still letting light in.
In winter, heat generated inside your home is reflected back inward rather than escaping through the glass. In summer, solar heat from outside is reflected away before it enters the room. The coating is so thin it has no visible effect on clarity or the colour of natural light.
Two options, one goal
Fairview offers two Low-E glass options through FMIBI, each optimised for a different climate and orientation. Both are available in double or triple-glazed configurations and can be combined with argon gas for further improved insulation.
LoE-180
Optimised for maximum thermal insulation. The right choice for cooler climates, or south and east-facing orientations where retaining warmth is the priority.
LoE-270
Optimised for solar control. Manages heat gain without sacrificing light — well suited to warmer regions, north-facing orientations, or rooms that receive a lot of direct sun.
